Volverte

Volverte is a narrative adventure that follows the northward migration of monarch butterflies across North America, beginning in the mountains of central Mexico and continuing through the United States toward Canada. Along the way, the player soars through changing landscapes, from forests and flower-filled fields to deserts, cities, neighborhoods, and the U.S.–Mexico border. As monarchs feed on flowers, they carry pollen between plants and search for the nectar and milkweed that allow the migration to continue, leaving small traces of life behind as new butterflies join the journey. The migration unfolds across generations, so the butterfly that begins the journey may not be the one that finishes it; its offspring inherit the journey and continue north. Through exploration, players learn about migration, pollination, changing ecosystems, and the relationships that connect plants, animals, people, and places across great distances. At the U.S.–Mexico border, the monarchs encounter a massive wall built to stop people but simply fly above it, creating a quiet contrast that invites questions about borders, belonging, and why living things move from one land to another. As the generations continue north, the migrating swarm repeatedly disperses and gathers again, carrying the colors and memories of each landscape forward. The swarm becomes a visible connection between places that may appear divided on a map but belong to the same ecological journey. Eventually, the seasonal cycle points back toward Mexico, where a remarkable long-lived generation of monarchs can make the great southward migration to the forests where earlier generations began, turning the journey into one of departure, inheritance, survival, and return.
